He may have only been playing in Spain for a wet week, but Stevan Jovetic has proven to be a real thorn in Real Madrid’s side.
After being unable to get a game at Inter Milan for most of the season, the Montenegrin sharpshooter was shipped off on loan to Sevilla in the January window. He couldn’t possibly have made more of an impact during his short spell at the club so far.
He’s played just two games for the La Liga outfit. Both times were against the mighty Real Madrid. Both times he’s found the net.
Madrid’s incredible unbeaten streak very nearly came to an end during their Copa del Rey second leg clash against Sevilla on Thursday. Jovetic bagged a goal as his side took a 3-1 lead, but some heroics from Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema kept the run alive.
Los Blancoes wouldn’t be as lucky the next time Jovetic faced them. During his La Liga debut on Sunday, Jovetic bagged the winner in injury time to end Madrid’s undefeated run in all competitions at 40. They’ve still set a Spanish record, but they haven’t extended it by much.
The result has left the title race wide open. Sevilla now move up to second, just a single point behind Real Madrid. Barcelona, who annihilated Las Palmas 5-0 on Saturday are another point behind in third.
