Shankly Gates temporarily removed from Anfield to allow for stadium construction

Anfield Road won't look the same

Darragh Murphy

Don’t panic Liverpool fans, they’ll  be back.

The iconic Shankly Gates have been taken down and put into safe storage to allow for the expansion work at Anfield to continue.

The gates were put in place less than a year after the legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly passed away in 1981 and were unlocked by his wife, Nessie.

They will be returned to their rightful place after the construction work at Anfield, which will increase the stadium’s capacity by 8,500, finishes.
