Typically low-key reaction to reports Real Madrid want to sign Marcus Rashford

It was bound to happen.

If you’re a club like Manchester United and don’t have Real Madrid sniffing around your biggest talents you should be worried.

Some may see it as the ultimate conceit that Los Blancos feel they’re entitled to all the best players in the world, but when they start showing a serious interest – and leak it through the press – it’s a strange kind of compliment.

The jewel in the Old Trafford crown as far as the exciting young talents go is undoubtedly Marcus Rashford. Still only a teenager, the Wythenshawe wonder has quickly established himself as an exciting and fundamental player in Jose Mourinho’s plans. Fans of his club and country see him as a genuinely thrilling prospect of sky-high potential.

Judging by his pre-season form, there’s far more to come this term too. He looks far more confident in one-on-ones with the goalkeeper to beat, taking chances in emphatic manner, and physically looks more muscular and imposing than before.

Once he starts bullying defenders, as well as beating them for speed and skill, we’ll be talking about a world-class player.

That hasn’t gone unnoticed at the Bernabeu, and reports in both the British and Spanish press claim that Real have turned their focus on the 19-year-old after Monaco warned suitors with action for illegally approaching Kylian Mbappé. In many ways Rashford is a natural alternative, and Real hope to pounce in the light of Lukaku’s arrival at Old Trafford.

As you can imagine, their interest is not welcomed by United fans, who are keen to keep hold of their homegrown superstar.

But, in a way, it’s a good sign when Los Merengues come a-knocking…
