‘I’m very sure that the club know that’
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has called on the Glazers to spend the money in order to sign a new striker.
United’s Premier League campaign begins in less than a fortnight with a home game against Wolves on August 14 but have still failed to bring in a recognised forward.
So far, the Red Devils have signed Andre Onana and Mason Mount while a deal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund is edging closer to completion after the two sides agreed a deal.
Erik ten Hag’s side are significantly lacking in the forward department after making the decision not to turn Wout Weghorst’s move into a permanent one and Anthony Martial considered injury prone.
‘An out-and-out striker is what we need’ – Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw admitted that he has been impressed by the signings that have joined so far but called on the club’s hierarchy to splash the cash on a forward to help strengthen their squad.
“We’ve already signed some very good players and hopefully there’s more additions to come to strengthen the squad,” the full back said.
“I don’t really want to comment too much on that [Hojlund deal]. I think obviously he’s not our player yet, so I won’t say too much.
“An out-and-out striker is what we need and we’re desperate for one. I’m very sure that the club know that, the manager knows that and us players would love one to come, too.”
Rasmus Hojlund is said to be close to penning his signature on a deal with United after the club agreed a reported £64m plus £8m [add-ons] deal with Atalanta. Erik ten Hag has been told, though, that any further signings will require other squad members to be sold on.
