Who knew Gianluigi Buffon was such a sensitive soul?
The Juventus goalkeeper has offered up the most beautiful goodbye message for long time teammate Andrea Pirlo after the midfielder was officially unveiled as a New York City FC player yesterday.
The pair have played together in the black and white of Juve since 2011 but have been a part of the Italian national team since 2002 so there are few football duos closer than Buffon and Pirlo.
And that’s best summed up by Buffon’s SportsLobster post that has us blaming a non-existent onion for our welling up.
Buffon writes: “They’ve used different words to tell you goodbye and wish you many other victories. I would like to use one word gathering the whole life we lived together – friend. Good luck, my friend. Good luck for your present and your future. Thank you for our past lives together. Thank you for the carefree hours spent together.”
