Yes that’s right folks, Erik Ten Hag has told his players to take their anger out against Liverpool in a match which he believes they must win if then want to bolster their hopes of qualifying for the Champion’s League.
After letting in two goals in stoppage time against Chelsea last night, United are now 11 points behind fourth placed Aston Villa and nine behind Tottenham in fifth.
Speaking about their upcoming game against Liverpool, The Telegraph reports that Ten Hag said: “We will be mad, angry and you can take a lot of energy from that, and that is the way we have to do it.
“We have to recover (from the Chelsea defeat) very quickly. We have to turn this around, so from Friday on, we will be in a positive mood, looking forwards.”
When asked if he feels his team need to be “perfect” in their final few league games this year, Hag replied: “Yeah, I’ve said it before. But I think so, yeah. In stoppage time this week, we have dropped five points, it’s very expensive.
“The points are getting more expensive because the games are running out and we know that.
“We have to catch up and we are now many points behind, so it will be difficult. But we will keep fighting and I’m sure you see, our team, they have character. We have seen an example (against Chelsea) as well, they are resilient and I’m sure they will be there on Sunday, to be in the fight against Liverpool.”
Understandably, Liverpool fans are having quite the laugh at Hag’s comments, reminding them of how they beat them 7-0 in the league last year.
Liverpool fans do seem to be forgetting, however, that it was United who knocked them out of the FA Cup just two weeks ago.
