Brendan Rodgers is in his ‘dream job’ and not willing to indulge in a two-year nightmare that ends in an un-gratifying World Cup exit.
Such is the dearth of British Isle-grown options to replace Roy Hodgson as England boss that even Tim Sherwood is being linked to the job. Tim. Sherwood.
It is no surprise, then, to find Rodgers’ name on the betting shortlist to take over the England job.
The former Liverpool boss is a wet week at Celtic – or, as they call it in Glasgow, a week – but found himself answering questions on the link.
Rodgers took the links in good nature and gave a light-hearted response. He told reporters, “Well I haven’t put a foot wrong here. Brilliant.”
When the chuckles died down, Rodgers added:
“It shows you what the world of football is now, the gossip and speculation that goes on.
“I’ve just landed my dream job. The team I’ve supported all my life. I haven’t even walked out for my first game. Imagine me, as a Celtic supporter, having walked out on the job at Parkhead?
“I see Jose Mourinho has also been linked with it. He’s unbeaten too… I’ll be at Celtic, that’s for sure.”
Celtic fans will be pleased that the Northern Irishman is sticking around.
Rodgers made Moussa Dembele his first permanent signing, on Wednesday, and is said to be pursuing Ireland defender Shane Duffy.
