The Belgian international, a summer signing from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, had only just entered the field of play when Dortmund fell behind to second-tier Greuther Furth in the German Cup on Monday night.
Fortunately, Witsel volleyed home a last-gasp equaliser to send the game to extra-time and avoid a shock first-round exit.
