Poetry in motion.
Last weekend the Dublin Rebels pipped Carrickfergus 12-0 in a defensive battle.
Wit the game deadlocked in the fourth quarter, the Dublin outfit decided to try an unusual tactic. With the end zone in sight, defensive end Simon Mackey was thrown into the offensive line for just one play.
What happened next was nothing short of beautiful.
A stunning lead block made space for the Mackey to do his thing, but he still had it all to do. A would-be tackler came hurtling towards him, but he leaped over him with all the grace of cheap New Yorker jumping the turnstile to get a free Subway ride.
Landing directly in front of two more Carrickfergus players didn’t cause him any problems. An elegant spin away from the incoming tackle and he was away and in for a touchdown.
The first score of the game was certainly worth the wait.
