WATCH: We’re not sure if we’ve ever seen a better Paul Galvin impression than this

Nailed it

We were expecting tears in our eyes when we heard Conor’s Sketches was planning a special Colm Cooper tribute. It was a pleasant surprise that they were tears of laughter.

It seemed on fitting that, on the week of Colm Cooper’s retirement from inter-county footballer, SportsJOE Live got the read on his legacy from two Irish sporting stars.

Ronan O’Gara and Andy Reid joined host Colm Parkinson and SportsJOE’s Dion Fanning to discuss the Kerry GAA legend and how he stuck to his footballing beliefs in a game that is screaming towards professionalism in all but name.

‘Des Cahill’ [as played by Conor Moore] then presented a fitting, funny tribute entitled ‘Let’s Talk Gooch’. The piece featured Moore’s hilarious takes on Mickey Harte, Davy Fitzgerald, Ger Loughnane, Pat Spillane and Bernard Brogan.

However, it was his turn as Paul Galvin, a former Kerry teammate of Cooper’s, that stole the show.

Playing on a great story about Cooper going for a cat-nap on the day of his star turn in the 2007 All-Ireland final, ‘Galvin’ said:

“I remember this game, many years ago, The Gooch missed the game, sure he fell asleep and he forgot to wake up. Would you believe he still scored 1-5 that day. I’m telling you the truth. 1-3 from play.”

The sketch, which starts at 38:40 in the video below, brought the house down and is definitely worth a watch.
