Nary a mention of George Hook

Meanwhile Ireland fans covet the services of Mike Brown

We expect this week to be dominated by just one thing; Ireland v England in the Six Nations. And so far we haven’t been let down. Already we have some real news, like the full Ireland squad for the game and now have some of the fun stuff, like which English player would Irish fans like to have togging out in green.

The survey, conducted by Ulster Bank, found out a few tasty nuggets. Chief among them for us was the fact that by some distance Conor O’Shea was the favourite TV analyst, with 45 per cent of the vote. Shane Horgan garners a respectable 22 per cent, whole Brian O’Driscoll nabs 17. Bernard Jackman gets six per cent and the rest combined get nine. Bad day at the office for Messrs Hook and ROG.

O’Shea also gets the nod as the best Irish coach in the business, with a whopping 64 per cent admiring his work for Harlequins. Jackman, with 18 per cent comes second for his role at Grenoble. Munster’s Anthony Foley managed six per cent.

The survey also finds out that most fans, 54 per cent, think Ireland will make the World Cup semi-finals while 55 per cent believe Robbie Henshaw will play 13 at the World Cup.

We also learn that Mike Brown just edges out Owen Farrell and Courtney Lawes as the players Irish fans would like to see defect from England to play for Ireland in a dream scenario.

The survey of over 1,200 people was carried out up to and including the first weekend of the Six Nations.
