The 22-year-old hasn’t played since he outgrew his size 18s.
Considering we pad around SportsJOE Towers in dainty size five Italian loafers, we simply can’t relate to the plight of Welsh man Carl Griffiths.
The Telegraph today tell us that the 6’8″ player has had to quit the game as he can’t find size 21 boots. He hasn’t played since he was injured wearing size 18s that squashed his feet and the only option he has found is to have the boots specially made, which would cost £300 (€384).
Griffiths is hoping to find some kindly soul to supply the boots so he can get back playing with Trimsaran RFC, a feeder club for Scarlets.
‘I’m hoping someone can help out because of how frustrating it is. Not being able to play because of not having shoes is just aggravating.
‘At least when you have an injury, you know you just can’t play for a while. But when I’m out just because of not having shoes that fit, it’s just really frustrating.
‘I just want to play rugby. I’ve had some boots in size 18, I wore them with my toes curled right up, but I broke a toe when someone stepped on it.
‘The boots I have had haven’t really fit properly for a long time.
‘I’ve played a few games with broken boots taped up over the holes, and I’ve been doing some of the training sessions wearing my normal trainers, but I end up spending more time on the floor than I do in the game.
Proof of how badly damaged his last boots were is evidenced by this picture
In case you are wondering, Griffiths feet are an astounding 14.5 inches long, making them 2.5 inches longer than an actual foot.
