The end of an era.
Almost 14 years since making his international debut against Wales, Paul O’Connell has hung up his green jersey for the last time.
The legendary lock tore his hamstring in Ireland’s victory over France on Sunday and after the entire nation spent 36 hours crossing their fingers, the feared worst was confirmed.
O’Connell’s Rugby World Cup is over which also means that, for the last time, we’ve seen Paulie lead out the Irish squad.
A leader, a warrior, a gentleman – @Paul_OConnell has played his last for Ireland. #ShoulderToShoulder #RWC2015 pic.twitter.com/xNmt6YqIpX

Out of all the rugby players I've interviewed – none have been as charming as Paul O'Connell – a fine ambassador for his sport #IREvARG
