Sonny Bill Williams endears himself to all with incredibly kind gesture after Rugby World Cup final

What a guy

Sonny Bill Williams only needs the one Rugby World Cup medal.

The New Zealand centre came off the bench to set up Ma’a Nonu’s second half try which stretched the All Blacks lead to 21-3 over Australia.

Having already won the Rugby World Cup in 2011, Williams obviously wasn’t too fussed about receiving a second medal as he decided to make a young fan’s day at full time.

On his way to the changing rooms, Williams picked out young Charlie Lines in the Twickenham crowd and placed the winning medal round his neck.

When asked after the game why he picked out young Charlie, Williams explained that he had just seen him be tackled by a security guard as the boy attempted to get onto the field to meet his heroes.

Williams said: “I was walking around doing a lap of honour with the boys and a young fella came running out and he got smoked by the security guard, like full on tackled him. I felt sorry for the little fella.

“He would have been eight or seven, I kind of felt sorry for him. It will be a night that he remembers hopefully.”

He’s some man for one man.
