Get off the fence ROG and tell us what you really think
Former Munster out-half has saluted JJ Hanrahan’s cajones after the Kerry native turned his nose up at playing back-up to Ian Keatley in order to start rugby life afresh with Northampton Saints.
O’Gara, who is now coaching with Racing Métro, told 2FM’s Game On that Hanrahan’s switch to the Premiership side ‘is a pure rugby decision’. The Corkman believes the young star, who has mostly played inside centre this season, felt his path to the No.10 jersey blocked for the next 18 months at least.
O’Gara commented, ‘His vision is to surpass Stephen Myler in the Northampton team and look good in a good team. It’s obviously a bit risky but he backing himself and then, hopefully in two years’ time, when he’s proven and, in his eyes, he’s pushing Johnny Sexton with Ireland, he could return to Munster again.’
He added, ‘Say what you want but you’ve got to admire the balls of the young fella, no one has done it before.
‘He is a little bit special and the people who think a little bit different, have to be treated a little bit special.’
