One of the game’s greatest ever out-halves, the All-Black celebrates his 33rd birthday today, so we’ve taken out our magnifying glass to sift through some of the more fascinating figures from the legend’s career.

It’s almost 12 years since Carter burst onto the test scene as a 21-year-old, his international career set to come to a close after the World Cup in the autumn, with Racing Metro opening their chequebook to sign him on a whopping three year deal.
