Munster and Leinster fans will have very different reactions to PRO12 dream team

Irish provinces absolutely dominate

Ben Kiely

The Guinness PRO12 dream team for the 2016/17 season has been announced and the Irish provinces absolutely dominate the lineup.

Somewhat surprisingly though, the top-ranked team don’t have the most players in the XV.

Leinster may be sitting atop the table after scoring over four tries a game this season, but their return for this fine form is just two players in the team – Dan Leavy, who has arguably been their best player and number eight jack Conan.

Munster, on the other hand, will be absolutely thrilled. Despite being behind Leinster in the standings, they have three times as many players in the team. Jaco Taute, Rory Scannell, Tyler Blevendaal, Billy Holland, John Ryan and David Kilcoyne all made the cut.

Ulster got two players in the squad, while Tiernan O’Halloran of Connacht rounds off a strong Irish provincial contingent. Scarlets, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh made up the remaining numbers.
