Munster could be in hot water as EPCR investigate Conor Murray incident

Was it an "untoward incident'?

Conor Murray took some rough treatment in Scotstoun on Saturday night.

The Ireland and Lions scrum-half was on the receiving end of some nasty shots as Munster made it four wins from five in the Champions Cup with an impressive victory away to Glasgow.

However it was in making a tackle himself that Murray appeared to suffer his most serious knock, one to the head.

With Murray appearing to be unconscious on the deck after Tim Swinson barrelled into him, viewers were left shocked that the Munster star was not immediately removed from the field of play.

The medical team did, after reviewing the footage, withdraw the scrum-half for a head injury assessment (HIA).

It seems tournament organisers EPCR also noticed and will investigate the issue in the next couple of days.

Northampton Saints were subject to a similar investigation after they allowed George North to play on late last year against Leicester, despite television footage showing the Welsh winger had clearly been knocked out cold.

In that case, amazingly, the RFU’s Concussion Management Review Group found Northampton had no case to answer.

The new tackle laws in rugby are part of a concerted effort to improve safety at the pinnacle of the game and, if the lawmakers are serious about changing perceptions, then Munster could find they have a serious case to answer.
