Big changes

What could this mean for Anthony Foley?

Munster are not enjoying the best of seasons, but reports tonight suggest that the powers behind the scenes are looking to make a major change to try and improve the fortunes of the province.

Anthony Foley has endured a tough time as the provincial head coach, but according to Ireland legend Donal Lenihan tonight, he is set for a helping hand in the near future.

According to the Ireland legend, he understands that the province are to appoint a director of rugby role in the coming months, which is likely to add some much needed experienced to Foley’s current coaching ticket.

It has been rumoured this afternoon that the new role would be created at the province, which may end any doubt that the former European Cup winning captain is to step away from his side this summer.

Foley’s side exited Europe earlier than anticipated, while their domestic form has left a lot to be desired at both home and away in the Pro12.

Speculation had indicated that the former forward may quit, but with several frontline players having committed to new contracts at the province, it seems likely Foley will still be in charge at the start of next season.

Munster will not be the first province to appoint a director of rugby of course, with David Humphreys, and Les Kiss, having filled the role at Ulster over the last number of years.

With Conor O’Shea leaving his role with Harlequins this season, could the former Ireland international be an ideal candidate for the job?
