Leinster’s latest fitness bulletin has the Sean O’Brien update we’ve been waiting for

No Rhys Ruddock though

Patrick McCarry

Out goes one back-row and in come two back-rows.

Treatment rooms at all professional rugby outfits now but feature revolving doors. It’s the only practical solution.

Rhys Ruddock has torn a calf muscle and will miss this weekend’s Champions Cup away date with Montpellier. Leinster’s latest fitness bulletin breaks the bad news, this afternoon, and also flags that Tadhg Furlong [hamstring] may miss the upcoming match.

There are three players still in the ‘maybe’ column – Johnny Sexton, Dave Kearney and Richardt Strauss. Sexton was able to run on his tight hamstring last Saturday and will be looked at closely in training over the next couple of days.

The good news from the update comes in the form of Sean O’Brien and Jack Conan. Both men played for Leinster A against Richmond last weekend, with O’Brien completing 40 minutes and Conan getting himself a try.

Both players are down as available for selection with Mike McCarthy good to go too, if selected.

Leinster scrum coach John Fogarty says O’Brien will have to be eased back into the grind of week-to-week rugby but stresses there would be no hesitation in putting the ‘Tullow Tank’ in from the start, in France.
