Conor Murray produced a moment of genius to open the scoring for Munster in their Champions Cup quarter-final against Toulon at Thomond Park.
With Munster trailing 6-0, and Toulon trying to work their way off their own line, hooker Guilhem Guirado attempted to pick the ball up at the base of the ruck before committing a knock on.
Murray, who was positioned at the side of the ruck, noticed the knock on and immediately moved to the Toulon side of the ruck where he picked up the ball and placed it over the try line for Munster’s first score of the game.
When Guirado touched the ball and knocked it on, the ruck was over and the ball was in general play.
Murray picked up on the fact that the ruck was over within seconds of Guirado playing the ball and his intellect gifted Munster the rarest of tries.
The Ireland international was one of the starts of this year’s Six Nations, and after spending the last week holidaying with some of his Ireland teammates, he’s picking right back up where he left off in Limerick as Munster lead 10-6 at half-time.
