Valentino Rossi, you can ignore all those ‘No Overtaking’ signs forever.
This is how it’s done.
By God, the Italian racing legend might well be a dab hand on a motorcycle but he showed at the weekend that he is better than you or me with the four wheels as well with this unbelievable overtaking manoeuvre.
The nine-time Moto GP world champion entertained his native Italians at the Monza Rally Show and he bloody nearly won the whole thing in the 9km bout when he came in second behind former Formula One driver Robert Kubica. But Rossi won the day and our beating hearts with this absolutely audacious piece of skill that saw him avoid a near crash and overtake in front of the stand on the sharpest of bends. Truly spectacular.
And, of course, like any good story, there’s an Irish man in there playing his part.
Brian Moore, a native of Crossmolina in Mayo, was the mechanic for Rossi’s car at the weekend and it’s fair to say that he must’ve done some job with it. Brian is a technician working for M-Sport and Bentley and he has worked on Mikko Hirvonen’s Fiesta during the WRC season this year as well.
