When Alonso regained consciousness after that pre-season crash, he thought he was a 13-year-old boy.
The former world champion was involved in a serious collision during the last day of pre-season testing at the Circuit De Catalunya in Barcelona just over a week ago. Alonso was immediately airlifted to hospital after the incident and there it was revealed that he had suffered a heavy concussion.
When Alonso woke up in hospital he thought that year was 1995 and that he was still a teenage go-karter with aspirations of becoming an F1 driver. When he was asked about his identity, what he did and what he hoped to be in the future, his response was a cause for concern.
I’m Fernando, I drive go karts and I want to be a Formula 1 driver.
The 33-year-old could not recollect either of his world championship wins, his F1 debut or anything that happened in the last 20 years.
Thankfully, Alonso seemed to make an amazing recovery from the incident judging by the thank you video he uploaded a few days after the crash.
However, he will be taking some time off from racing under expert medical advice.
