Anyone who saw UFC Hidalgo’s main card opener on Saturday night witnessed something very special.
Chas Skelly bounced back from his hard-fought loss to featherweight dark horse Darren Elkins with a tremendous win over Maximo Blanco at UFC Fight Night 94.
The fight itself was very brief, but boy was it memorable and Skelly really set the tone from the get-go by flooring his opponent with a flying kick to the chest from the opening bell.
With Blanco dazed and floundering on the ground, Skelly pounced, immediately trying to work for a submission. A few seconds later he got it with an anaconda choke that put the Mexican to sleep just 19 seconds into the fight.
And just like that Skelly became a record-holder as that choke became the fastest submission victory in UFC and WEC featherweight history. To cap it off, it also earned him a Performance of the Night bonus worth a cool $50,000 on top of his purse.
