The short notice element of Diaz accepting the main event of UFC 196 on eleven days’ notice prompted fighters on the card such as Gian Villante, Ilir Latifi and Tom Lawlor to plump for the Irishman.
Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was also in attendance to support teammate Villante and he agreed with the consensus that ‘The Notorious’ ought to get his hand raised by the end of the night.
