The accent isn’t even close.
If there was ever any doubt about Conor McGregor’s popularity across the Atlantic, then that can be firmly put to bed as the UFC lightweight champion of the world received his first parody on the popular ‘Saturday Night Live’.
The Crumlin man is currently taking a leave of absence from competing in the UFC, as he and his partner are expecting their first child in May of next year.
His absence from the limelight does not seem to have hampered his popularity, however, as SNL cast member, Alex Mofatt, attempts to mimic the Irish star.
The McGregor impersonation occurs in a skit known as “Where’d Your Money Go?” which also featured WWE star John Cena as New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Bobby Moynihan as golfer John Daly and Kenan Thompson as Charles Barkley.
The outfit chosen by Mofatt is strikingly similar to what McGregor wore during one of the press conferences for UFC 205.
In this regard, we tip our hat to SNL for getting the aesthetics right. However, the same cannot be said for the accent.

Unfortunately, like many attempts at the Irish accent from abroad, it doesn’t sound anywhere close to the real thing.
It also incurred the wrath of some people on twitter.
