Tony Ferguson is having to work for his title shot.
An eight-fight winning streak was not enough to earn him his first crack at 155 lbs gold but if that stretches to nine, his status as top contender will be impossible to deny.
Ferguson has been confirmed as the next opponent for the recently dethroned Rafael dos Anjos, in the Brazilian’s first fight since losing his title to Eddie Alvarez during international fight week.

Essentially a title eliminator, Ferguson and dos Anjos have been confirmed for a November tilt in Mexico City, as broken by Champions.co.
The No. 2 and No. 3 lightweights in the world are scheduled to face off on November 5 on a card that is also likely to feature the finale of the latest season of TUF Latin America.
Ferguson has gone 8-0 since his sole UFC defeat, a decision loss to Michael Johnson in 2012, while RDA will be looking to rebound from his brutal TKO defeat to new champion Alvarez just last month.
What the Ferguson vs. Dos Anjos match-up also does is essentially instil Khabib Nurmagomedov as Alvarez’s first title defence, with many believing the undefeated Russian lightweight is the uncrowned champion at 155 lbs.
What a division!
