July is looking like an absurdly exciting month for Irish fight fans.
Not only will we get to see Conor McGregor attempt to bring the UFC featherweight title back to Ireland and Catherine Costigan’s Invicta debut but Paul Redmond will be fighting the very next week.
Redmond (10-5) will take on Scotland’s Robert Whiteford in Glasgow on July 18 and will be looking to get back to winning ways after his promotional debut didn’t go to plan in a decision loss to Mirsad Bektic.
Redser had very little notice to prepare for the Bektic fight and endured a tough weight cut but with exactly two months to get ready for Whiteford, the Dublin fighter will be confident.
Whiteford (11-2) has fought twice already in the UFC, losing to Jimy Hettes in his first octagon outing before rebounding with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Pineda last March.
Many were wondering whether Redmond would have returned to more familiar ground at 155lbs in his next bout but he confirmed this morning that the Whiteford fight would be taking place in the featherweight division as he looks to make a name for himself among the world’s best 145lbers.
Stay tuned to SportsJOE for an interview with the former Cage Warriors star later this week.
