Don’t act like you haven’t missed Nate Diaz.
When Nate Diaz is around, MMA is simply more fun. Earlier this year, he informed the masses that the fun times would be coming back soon.
In January, Diaz let it be known that he was interested in stepping back inside the Octagon. According to his Instagram post, he would be ‘see u’ in May or June. If the ‘u’ he was referring to was the Ultimate Fighting Championships, he appears to be true to his word. Multiple reports are circulating that the Stockton native has begun ‘serious talks’ over a return to the promotion in August.
ESPN then MMA Fighting reported that the UFC and Nate Diaz have discussed the possibility of him returning at UFC 227 on August 4. Although no deal appears to have been struck, it is understood that these discussions took place as recently as last week.
Homecoming
MMA Fighting are reporting that neither a lightweight title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov nor a rubber match against Conor McGregor have been discussed for his comeback fight. Who knows what route they’ll end up going down, but if he’s to fight at his natural weight class of 155 lb, perhaps bouts against Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier, Kevin Lee or Justin Gaethje would make sense.
UFC 227 will take place at Staples Center, in Diaz’ s home state of California. A bantamweight title fight rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt has already been announced for the card. However, one would assume that any fight involving Diaz would instantly become the headline act.
Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a majority decision to McGregor in August 2016. There had been brief talks of him receiving a welterweight title fight against Tyron Woodley in December, but nothing ever came of them.
We’re not surprised, motherfuckers.
