Chuck Liddell and Conor McGregor share more than a couple of similarities.
Superstar status, finishing power and synonymity with the sport of MMA – you could be talking about either man.
But one big difference to Liddell and ‘The Notorious’ is the fact that the light heavyweight legend was never much of a trash-talker.
Apart from his rivalry with Tito Ortiz, ‘The Iceman’ remained relatively silent in the run-up to his fights in the octagon and has revealed that he’s not exactly a fan of the verbosity of the freshly crowned UFC featherweight champion.
“I’ll be honest: I don’t like the way Conor talks,” Liddell told Yahoo!’s Kevin Iole.
“I’m not a fan of that. I get it. I understand it. It’s his way of intimidating guys and getting into their head. Everyone has their way of trying to get into the other guy’s head before a fight, and talking is his way.
“I don’t like it, but I can put up with all the loudmouth, crazy things he says when he goes out and fights like he does and gives you those kinds of finishes.”
It’s “those kinds of finishes” that allow him to get away with being such a trash-talker according to Liddell and the former 205 lb kingpin is happy to give McGregor a pass as long as he keeps backing up his mouth.
“I love the way Conor fights,” Liddell added.
“How can you not? I mean, the guy delivers. I’ve been an Aldo fan for years, and he’s been such a great fighter, and Conor went out there and did what he said he was going to do.”
