GIF: Dustin Poirier looks to have learned a big lesson from his defeat to Conor McGregor

First fight at lightweight since 2010

He should be thanking The Notorious for this win

Déjá vu can be a right pain in the ass. You think you’ve seen something before but you can’t quite remember where and we got a right dose of the Groundhog day syndrome tonight watching UFC Fight Night 63 in Fairfax.

While Conor Mc Gregor is getting ready for a title shot at featherweight later this summer one of those he defeated along the way to meeting Jose Aldo has moved weight divisions. Dustin Poirier is back at lightweight and tonight he was in action at 155 for the first time since 2010.

He came up against the 11-1 submission specialist Diego Ferreira and made short work of his opponent in a first-round TKO victory. Poirier dropped Ferreira to the mat and then pounded on him until the referee had to stop the fight at 3:45.

The manner of Poirier’s win reminded us a lot of how Conor McGregor ended their fight in UFC 178.

It looks like the American has learned a bit since his demolition at the hands of the Dubliner, especially in regard to how best to deal with a sloppy single-leg attempt.

After a loss to McGregor  Poirier decided that he fancied moving divisons and it looks like already that his move has paid off.
