Well, that’s another dream shattered for MMA fans.

Jon Jones is still going to fight at UFC 197, but it won’t be the contest everyone hoped for after Daniel Cormier’s injury forced him out of the event.

The news about the light-heavyweight champion sustaining a leg injury broke on Saturday, and now the full damage sustained to his shin has been revealed.

The UFC champion was understood to have suffered a major injury, and according to MMA Fighting, Cormier has been struck down with a “complete middle substance rupture of the interosseous membrane from the fibula”.LAS VEGAS, NV - JANUARY 03: Daniel Cormier is treated between rounds as he takes on light heavyweight champion Jon Jones during the UFC 182 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on January 3, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will not need surgery, but his comeback has been suggested as taking four to eight weeks, which means any possible title fight with Jones at UFC 200 in July is not going to happen.

Cormier won’t need surgery, and will be on track to defend his title against the winner of the  Jon Jones-Ovince Saint-Preux  interim title fight announced on Saturday.

But that fight can now only take place in the autumn.

The wait for yet another key fight for the UFC 200 card goes on.
