Daniel Cormier not over the moon with referee appointment for rematch with Jon Jones

Official complaint

Herb Dean will, for the second time in sixteen months, oversee a light heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

Dean was the third man in the Octagon for the main event of UFC 182 which saw Jones successfully defend his 205 lb strap against the then-undefeated Cormier.

UFC 182: Jones v Cormier

Jones took a unanimous decision against ‘DC’ last January which was the last time we saw Jones in competition as he was suspended and had his title stripped from him after his involvement in a hit-and-run accident with a pregnant woman.

It was announced on Wednesday that Dean would again be referee for Jones vs. Cormier, the rematch of which takes place at UFC 197 next month.

Jon Jones and Daniel Comier on January 3, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission and it was contested by Cormier who registered an official complaint over the phone but the NSAC upheld the appointment, per MMAFighting.com.

Cormier’s objection was that he felt that Dean allowed Jones to stall towards the end of their first meeting but the complaint made no difference as it will indeed be Dean in the centre of the Octagon come April 23.
