Conor McGregor reveals intention to fight not only Nate, but Nick Diaz too

Keeping it in the family

Conor McGregor may be about to join a very exclusive club.

To date, only four men have fought both Diaz brothers – Takanori Gomi, Josh Neer, Joe Hurley, Koji Oishi – but that list could be about to earn a certain outspoken Irishman.

Conor McGregor, who meets Nate Diaz at next weekend’s UFC 196, has indicated an interest in fighting the older, more experienced of the Diaz brothers.

Directly after the UFC 196 press conference on Wednesday night, former Strikeforce and WEC welterweight champion Nick Diaz claimed that he was ‘ready to go today’ against McGregor, in spite of the 18 month suspension he was serving after testing positive for marijuana metabolites last January.

McGregor, who referenced Nick throughout the press conference, has since claimed that he wants to fight him at some stage in the future.

“I certainly did ask when Nick’s ban is up,” McGregor told Fox Sports. “He’s still banned so either or is good for me.

“Maybe somewhere down the line I’ll probably contest against both, I feel.”

Nick Diaz’s shouts towards ‘The Notorious’ were audible throughout the press event on Wednesday and McGregor didn’t shy away from responding to him on the stage.

“Nick is proud of his little brother. I could see it up there,” McGregor said. “He was worried for him or something. I could see it. I had to tell him, ‘Nick, he’s doing well up here, relax.’ But that’s his baby brother so it is what it is.”
