A fitting end to Tiger Woods’ annus horribilis.
The former undisputed world No.1 golfer has endured a torrid season of missed cuts and dismal play that has seen him plummet to 283 in the world rankings, and he has been forced to call time on 2015 due to a second operation on his troublesome back.
The microdiscectomy surgery removed a small fragment of a disc that was impacting a nerve and causing the American discomfort in recent weeks.
Woods, who had just one top-ten finish this year, will now miss the start of the 2015-16 PGA Tour season, but is expecting to return to full fitness and to contend again next year.
“This is certainly disappointing, but I’m a fighter,” Woods wrote on his website. “I’ve been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will.”
Just had successful back surgery. I’ve come back from injuries before and I will again. http://t.co/jZeL6By5EY
