Video: The head flew off Phil Mickelson’s club after a bunker shot last night

The look on Phil's face is priceless

We don’t think we’ve ever seen this before

The Texas Open certainly had an action packed opening day. Our own Graeme McDowell pulled out through injury, the course played so hard in the morning that players were racking up some of the ugliest scores we’ve ever seen and only six players managed rounds below par all day.

One of those was Phil Mickelson, coming into what looks like his old form just in time for the Masters, the sneaky divil.

But the multiple Major champion also suffered a bizarre incident during his opening round. Playing the 12th, Mickelson went into a bunker, and the stance for Lefty was awkward.

Still, it wasn’t too bad and he managed to forward the ball back onto the fairway. The only problem was the head of his sand wedge went onto the fairway too.

We’ve watched this countless times and we still can’t see anything other than sand and the ball striking the head of the club.

Luckily it didn’t fly into the crowd and it didn’t hamper the American for the rest of his round as he would birdie three of his final five holes after this to finish in a tie for fourth at -2.
