That’s some sunken treasure
A scuba diver has recovered a club thrown by Rory McIlroy into a lake at the WGC Cadillac Championship in Florida.
The world No.1 dispatched his 3-iron to the water at Trump National Doral in a fit of pique after dumping his second shot into the drink on the eighth hole of his second round on Friday.
But the enterprising diver, reportedly hired by course owner Donald Trump, waded below the surface and retrieved the club.

It’s uncertain whether Trump will return to the club to McIlroy or keep it as a rather interesting piece of memorabilia, but the Irishman, who admitted he regretted the throw even though it ‘felt good at the time’, has already had a replacement delivered, however he continued to tread water with his game in yesterday’s third round.
UPDATE: Trump has indeed returned the club to McIlroy.

McIlroy carded an even par round of 72 that included four birdies, four bogeys and another ball in the water on 8 (although he kept hold of the club this time), and is ten shots behind leader JB Holmes. Shane Lowry is level with McIlroy on one under par, with Holmes taking a five-stroke lead over fellow Americans Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson into this evening’s final round.
