Paul Dunne hasn’t even won the tournament yet and already Britain are trying to claim him as their own.
The Greystones amateur is re-writing the script at The Open, leading the tournament at the time of writing on Day Three but will have to maintain that form tomorrow if he is to complete the underdog story of all underdog stories.
And his success is such that the commentary team at the BBC are led to believe that he’s British, as Mark James spoke of him in the same breath as Englishmen Eddie Pepperell and Danny Willett as he teed of on the 17th.
