The precociousness of youth
We’ve seen how Rory McIlroy was touted as a future major champion from a very young age, but new kid on the block Jordan Spieth was also tipped for great things from his early teens.
Although not quite as young as McIlroy’s chipping into a washing machine, Spieth’s high school coach’s belief that the Texas native was on track to emulate the greats of the game has been borne out at this week’s Masters in Augusta, where the now 21-year-old takes a four-shot lead into the final round of the tournament he said then was his ‘ultimate goal’.

Spieth’s four-shot lead is the same margin McIlroy held over the Masters field at the same age, but the Irishman fell apart in the final round. Today is the American’s chance to hold it together as the likes of Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson give chase.
