US name Davis Love III to lead 2016 Ryder Cup team

It's his second crack at the job

Now we know who will be pitting his wits against our Darren at Hazeltine next year

The PGA of America has, as widely predicted over the last fortnight, named Davis Love III the captain of the US Ryder Cup team for next year’s edition of the event at Hazeltine.

Love previously held the job in 2012, when he guided the Americans to a 10-6 lead that looked set to bring the trophy back to American soil for just the second time this century, only for Europe overhauled that advantage in the Sunday singles in the famous ‘Miracle at Medinah’.

‘I am here with the same goal as in 2012 but not as the same captain,’ the 50-year-old said.

The selection is the result of the formation of a new US Ryder Cup taskforce, and Love will be a popular choice among players as the US aim to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat and win the Cup back from the Darren Clarke-led European side. He also named former US captain Tom Lehman as the first of four vice-captains.
