European fan celebrates Ryder Cup win in style after bizarre Tommy Fleetwood moment

Robert Redmond

“Relief. Proud. Joy.”

Europe have won the Ryder Cup, beating the United States 16½-11½ at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.

Tommy Fleetwood sealed the win for Europe. The English golfer hit his tee shot on the 16th to within a couple of feet of the hole.

Fleetwood, 32, then set himself up for a birdie with his first putt. Team USA golfer Rickie Fowler, however, didn’t wait for his opponent to sink his putt and conceded the match.

Europe, therefore, won the Ryder Cup, regaining the trophy they lost at Whistling Straits in 2021.

“I didn’t want it to come down to one of us at the back,” Fleetwood told Sky Sports following the win.

“I can’t wait to see the rest of the guys, the captain, the vice captains, our wives, our families and the staff.

“I’m so happy to play a part in it. It’s been a bit bigger than I thought it would be when I saw the draw.

“I’m so proud. We have an amazing group of people, we always do. This year has been very different and the landscape has changed for Team Europe but I couldn’t wish for a better bunch of people to do with this.

“We are one gigantic family and the bonds you make last a lifetime. This is just so cool.”

“Relief, pride, joy,” Fleetwood continued.

“I’m proud I’m just one of the people who gets to play a part. I love everybody involved.”

The Englishman also praised Team Europe captain Luke Donald, saying:

“Luke is amazing. We’re all so proud of him. From the process starting, he has been so so good. We look at Luke on another level.

“I’m so happy we could get it done for him.”
