Young star set for move to controversial tour.
Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin looks set to forgo his PGA Tour card and join LIV Golf instead.
Reports from Spanish website Ten Golf state that the 22-year-old is in ‘pole position’ to join Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on the Saudi-backed breakaway tour, as a replacement for the relegated Kieran Vincent.
BBC NI have gone even further and have reported that the shock move is indeed ‘set’ to happen.
Jon Rahm and McKibbin both share the same sponsor, Callaway, who are close to securing a deal to become Legion XIII’s main sponsor for the upcoming LIV season, which begins on February 6 in Saudi Arabia.
The young star has enjoyed an impressive few months; earning his PGA Tour card with a birdie on the last hole at November’s DP World Tour Championship, before being selected for Justin Roses’ Great Britain and Ireland team in their Team Cup match against Francesco Molinari’s Continental Europe side, at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, beginning on Friday.
At 110th in the world, McKibbin is the third ranked golfer from these shores, behind Shane Lowry, and his fellow Holywood GC man Rory McIlroy.
The young star won his first DP World Tour title at the Porsche European Open in 2023, and lost out in a play-off at the Italian Open last year.
He will become the second man from Northern Ireland to join LIV, following former US Open champion Graeme McDowell.
