“I’m playing in the Masters. Thanks for all the support.”

It’s far from the most exciting tweet we’ll ever read, but it was the thought that counted.

After weeks and weeks of will he, won’t he about Tiger Woods’ participation in Augusta next week, it was announced this afternoon that the four time champion will be back in action on Thursday.

After dropping to 104 in the rankings this week, his lowest since his first win on the tour in 1996, Woods has decided to return for the Masters after practicing at the course in the past couple of days.

A statement on his website said that he’s fit and ready to play, after taking a break from the game following his withdrawal from the Farmers Insurance Open in February due to a back injury.

“I’ve worked a lot on my game and I’m looking forward to competing. I’m excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone’s support,” he said on his website.

The 39-year-old has four green jackets among his 14 major wins, but while he won’t be expected to add a fifth next week, the media scrum following him is sure to suit Rory McIlroy, who is the big favourite to complete his career grand slam.
