Roll on St Andrew’s…
Jordan Spieth made it back-to-back major victories as he claimed the US Open title in a hugely dramatic finish at Chambers Bay.
But it was Dustin Johnson’s three putt on the 18th that will live as long in the memory as anything the 21-year-old Spieth produced on the course.
Spieth began the final round at four-under, tied for the lead with Jason Day, Branden Grace and Dustin Johnson.
At -4, Spieth had a chance to eagle the 18th but missed his putt. He sank the birdie and stood back to watch Johnson, who was in the next group.
Johnson also had an eagle putt on the 18th, a 12-footer that would have won him the title, but he missed.

A birdie would have forced a play-off with Spieth, but Johnson missed a simple putt and had to make do with a share of second place with Louis Oosthuizen.
If this goes to a playoff, not sure the greens can take another 18 holes! maybe they should just play it at another course 😂😂😂

And so US Open title went to Spieth, to go with his Masters victory from earlier this year.
Rory McIlroy produced a stunning final round, and at one point looked as if he was going to put real pressure on the leading pack.
McIlroy ended up on even par for the tournament, five shots off the pace, finishing in a tie for ninth place with fellow Irishman Shane Lowry and Jason Day.
But as Spieth’s dramatic victory unfolded most on Twitter were in disbelief at how his victory came about.
I have never seen the likes of this.

Eagle on 18 to win a first major championship. Nerves. All the nerves. Every nerve.

Noooooo! DJ has not 3 putted. Gutted for him.

Golf can be utterly brutal sometimes

You'd have to be pretty hard hearted not to feel for Dustin Johnson. Never a good way to lose a major but that was seriously sore.

Never thought I would be sick to my stomach watching Spieth win a major. Golf is so horrifically amazing that you can't even enjoy the wins.

What a bizarre last few holes. The only other place it could happen would be under a circus tent.

Hey Rory, you officially have a rival.

At least we can end the debate on which DJ major heartbreak is the worst.

This Open Championship is going to be epic….

So the Slam is on, as it once was for Arnold, Jack and Tiger.
