Shane Lowry wants to see Tiger Woods back playing golf for one selfish reason

Kevin McGillicuddy

We love Shane Lowry.

The Offaly man is a breath of fresh air for his ability to compete at the very top, but also retain a refreshing level of normality.

The Clara native got married earlier this month, just a few days after securing a hole-in-one on the last day of the Masters.

Not a bad week to be fair, and the golfer is hoping his year will only get better as he targets a first ever major win.

To achieve that, however, he will have to get the better of the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Danny Willet among dozens of others on the tour.

The Masters - Round One

One man, who is yet to make an appearance on a golf course this season, but who is on the comeback trail, is, of course, Tiger Woods.

The 14-time major winner has been spotted playing some practice rounds in America recently and Lowry, speaking to Off the Ball, would love to see the former world number-one back in action.

It’s not just for seeing what Woods might be able to do on the biggest day, but also for a selfish reason that any golfer could empathise with.

“I’d like to get a game of golf with Tiger Woods. It’s something that I’ve always said, I grew up watching him. He was one of my heroes. It’d be great to see him back.

“It’d be great to see him back. I don’t know how good he’s going to be when he comes back. I mean the top of world golf now is very strong at the minute, so it would be amazing to see Tiger back up there and it would be great to go head-to-head with him.”
