Shane Lowry won’t be letting any booming drives rip at Rio 2016.
We looked like we were in clover. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry going for gold at the Olympics, in Brazil.
Then McIlroy pulled out, citing fears over the Zika virus. Graeme McDowell was barely mentioned as a replacement when he signalled he would not be travelling.
This afternoon, Lowry followed the lead of McIlroy, McDowell and world number one Jason Day in pulling out of the upcoming games.
In a statement released via Twitter, Lowry said the Zika virus was his chief concern and reason to take his name out of consideration for Team Ireland:
