Further proof that Rory McIlroy is primetime.

The Down golfer is to take on Rickie Fowler in an exhibition match at Detroit Golf Club this summer… under lights.

The floodlit showdown is to be broadcast live on the Golf Channel and CBS on 7th June and will pit the world number three and four ranked golfers against each other just a week before the US Open.

Teeing off at 7pm, most of the back nine will be played under lights. It is thought to be the first primetime exhibition match since the Tiger Woods-led ‘Monday Night Golf’ series that ran more than 10 year ago.

The unique match-up could serve as a practice run for August’s Olympics in Rio, where McIlroy and Fowler will almost certainly be representing Ireland and the United States respectively.
