We can put the speculation to bed because Rory McIlroy’s presence at Whistling Straits has been confirmed.
The World Number 1 hinted that he was to compete in next weekend’s US PGA Championship with this Instagram post earlier today.

But any doubt was eliminated when the official account of the PGA tweeted out that the Holywood man would be grouped alongside World Number 2 Jordan Spieth and recent Open winner Zach Johnson.

We haven’t seen McIlroy on the tee box since the US Open in mid June as he injured his ankle in an ill-advised game of football shortly afterwards.
Fans will be watching intently to see how that ruptured ankle holds up over the four days and it will certainly be put to the test in the most competitive grouping imaginable.
