The world number one is in Kensington, Sydney for this year’s Australian Open
Rory McIlroy is hoping to end 2014 on the high that swept him to two Major victories, a reclaimed spot atop the world rankings and a Ryder Cup victory at Gleneagles.
The Holywood native will do battle with the likes of Adam Scott and Jordan Speith at The Australian Golf Club from Thursday and is not taking victory for granted.
McIlroy played Wednesday’s Pro-Am with Sydney Swans’ Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack, and former Swan Jude Bolton. McVeigh, who is co-captain with the AFL club, presented the golfer with a Swans jersey after their rounds. Swans are famous in Ireland for enticing Kerry GAA stars Tadhg Kennelly and Tommy Walsh Down Under for playing stints.
