Ernie Els is a doubt for the Irish Open.
The golfing legend has had to pull out of the Wells Fargo tournament in the USA with a strained back and, with just two weeks to go before the Irish Open, there’s a worry if he’ll make it back in time.
The extent of Els’ injury is as of yet unknown but the South African will face a race against time if he’s to line out next to Rory McIlroy and co on May 28.
The tournament, taking place in Royal County Down, is already expecting a number of big names to contest the prize but Els’ revelation that he’s been affected ahead of this weekend is a cause for concern.
Gutted to have to withdraw from @WellsFargoGolf today. A great event and course. Never like withdrawing from an event but strained my back.
